Description

ABBASID, al-Ma'mun, 810-833 AD / 194-218 AH. AR Dirhem (2.99 gm; 24 mm). year 200 AH. (scarce year), mint: Isbhan (Isfahan) (rare mint for the issue). Obverse phrase ending with "al-Mashriq" (East) and reverse shahdah ending with "Dhu'l-Ri'āsatayn" which was the title given to Ma'mun's Persian grand Vizier "Abu’l-ʿAbbās al-Faḍl ibn Sahl ibn Zādānfarrūkh-e Sarakhsī". Fadl was instrumental in making the 8th Shia Imam Ali Ibn Musa-al-Reza the crown prince of Ma'mun. That created a major rift among the courtiers seeing Fadl as enemy and also having sentiments toward the revival of the Sasanian empire. Those against him finally successfully assassinated him. scarce to Rare with the title of "Dhu'l-Ri'āsatayn". The title means head of two branches of government, civilian (Diwan) and Military (al-Jaysh). Choice EF. Toned.
