Description

Pseudo-Imperial, Odovacar (Odoacer) AV Solidus. In the name of Zeno, uncertain mint, AD 476-491. D N ZENO PERP AVG, helmeted, pearl-diademed and cuirassed bust facing, holding spear and shield decorated with horseman and fallen enemy motif / VICTORIA AVGGG, Victory standing facing, head to left, holding long jewelled cross; star above cross, star in right field, COMOBZ(retrograde) in exergue. Unpublished in the standard references; for similar mintmarks, cf. Lacam pl. CCXIV (uncertain mint, with officina marks); for another example with a star above the jewelled cross, cf. Lacam pl. CLXVIII (Arles). 4.39g, 20mm, 6h.
