Between 22 October 2011 and 7 January 2012, 105 gold coins were discovered by metal detectorists near Chawton in Hampshire. All are types produced AD 10-45, the majority struck for Verica, a local Celtic king and Roman ally who ruled in central southern England. His appeal to Emperor Claudius instigated the Roman invasion of Britannia in AD 43.
