Description

AU58 William and Mary (1688-94), silver Shilling, 1693, the 9 struck over an O or inverted 9, conjoined laureate and draped busts right, legend surrounding, GVLIELMVS. ET. MARIA. DEI. GRATIA, toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned cruciform shields, WM monogram in angles, Lion of Nassau at centre, date surrounding, MAG. BR. ER. ET. HI. REX. ET. REGINA., 6.08g (Bull 867A; ESC 1076A R4; S.3437). Toned, has been graded by NGC as AU58, very rare.

NGC Certification 5880764-007.

Currently top of population, the joint finest graded example with one other piece at NGC and superior to any graded by PCGS as of February 2021.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "William and Mary by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "King and Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
