Description

Australia, Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half Sovereign, 1887, Melbourne Mint, jubilee head left, Latin legend reads VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned, quartered, and garnished shield of arms, with cross of crown touching border denticles; surrounding BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: edge milled (Marsh 483; S.3870A). Extremely fine example, once cleaned but with residual mint lustre, scarce.

Calendar Year Mintage 64,000.

The obverse Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God”, reverse “Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith".
