Australia, George V (1910-36), gold Sovereign, 1916, Perth mint, bare head left, B.M. below truncation for engraver Bertram Mackennal, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX: F. D. IND: IMP:, rev. St. George and the Dragon right, WWP under lance for Master of the Mint William Wellesley Pole, mint letter P on groundline, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue for designer Benedetto Pistrucci, edge milled, 7.98g (Bentley 862; McD 254; Marsh 255; Fr. 40; S.4001). Small surface mark below obverse portrait, graded by PCGS as MS64, the second highest graded example at PCGS.

Calendar year mintage 4,906,000.

The Latin legend translates as “George the Fifth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India.”
