† Edward III (1327-77), gold Quarter-Noble of one shilling and eight pence, fourth coinage, Treaty period (1361-69), initial mark cross potent, quartered shield of arms in tressure of eight arcs, trefoils on cusps, plain spandrels, legend and beaded borders surrounding, saltire stops, ЄDWΛRD DEI GRA REX ANGL, rev. lis at centre of ornate cross potent with lis terminals, trefoil in each inner angle, lion in each outer angle, all within beaded and linear tressure of eight arcs, legend and beaded border surrounding, saltire stops, reads ЄXΛLTΛBITVRx INx GLORIΛ, 1.85g (Schneider 84; Lawrence dies 4/4; N.1243; S.1510). Toned, some minor weaknesses, well centred strike on good metal, good very fine.The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Edward by the Grace of God, King of England, Lord of Ireland," and on the reverse "He shall be exalted in glory," a Psalm from the Bible.
