Fr. 363. 1891 $5 Treasury Note. PMG Very Fine 30 EPQ.
An attractive example of this Very Fine $5 Treasury Note, found with PMG's coveted EPQ designation. A portrait of Union General George H. Thomas is seen at center, whose military service during the war has largely been forgotten about, when compared to his contemporaries such as Grant or Sherman. Thomas, unlike most Union Generals, did not write memoirs to advance his legacy after the war, nor did he seek public office like most Generals did and instead turned down the offer of the rank of Lieutenant General, to eventually replace Grant.
