NERO, A.D. 54-68. Fourree Denarius (2.55 gms), imitating Rome Mint, ca. A.D. 64-65. VERY FINE.
cf. RIC-45 (for prototype); cf. RSC-43 (same). Obverse: Laureate head right; Reverse: Nero, holding patera and scepter, and Messalina, holding patera and cornucopia, standing left. This contemporary counterfeit exhibits some scattered deposits and numerous areas of the core showing. Nevertheless, an interesting and rather SCARCE prototype on which this was based.
