Liberty Head Eagle
1904-O Liberty Head Eagle. Winter-1, the only known dies. MS-63 (NGC).
A fully struck, lustrous example with pretty patina in blended deep gold and pale pinkish-rose. This is the second most obtainable New Orleans Mint eagle, trailing only the 1903-O. The mintage of 108,950 pieces is generous for a ten-dollar gold issue from this Southern coinage facility, and enough examples have been repatriated from foreign bank hoards that the collector should have no difficulty locating an Uncirculated coin in the MS-60 to basal MS-62 grade range. Any finer, however, and this issue remains scarce. Clearly this Choice Mint State example represents a significant bidding opportunity for the astute gold collector.
PCGS# 8756. NGC ID: 267Z.
