Capped Bust Left Half Eagle
1811 Capped Bust Left Half Eagle. BD-2. Rarity-3. Small 5. AU Details--Tooled (PCGS).
Sharply defined overall with ample remnants of original mint luster, the eye appeal is further enhanced by vivid deep gold patina. There are no sizeable marks, and only a few wispy hairlines, although evidence of smoothing to Liberty's cheek and bust does confirm the PCGS qualifier. The two known die marriages of 1811 half eagle are of roughly equal scarcity in numismatic circles with a slight edge in availability going to BD-2. The varieties are easily distinguished by looking at the size of the digit 5 in the denomination; the obverse die is shared between the marriages. An impressively sharp and relatively appealing piece, the coin offered here is sure to find many willing buyers among early gold enthusiasts. BD Die State d/a.
