Civil War Store Cards
Massachusetts-Boston. 1863 Joseph H. Merriam. Fuld-115E-1a. Rarity-4. Copper. Plain Edge. MS-66 BN (NGC).
19 mm. This richly original example combines warm gray-brown patina with ample remaining color in vivid reddish-orange. Sharply struck with a smooth, satin to softly frosted texture. While not a rare die combination, this one by Merriam features stock die 1284 (dog's head, GOOD FOR A SCENT), one of the most eagerly sought in the entire Civil War token series. Represented here by an exceptional premium Gem.
