British Indian Peace Medals
1840 Queen Victoria Royal Medal. Small Size. Jamieson Fig. 31. Copper, Bronzed. Choice Mint State.
37.5 mm. 425.1 grains. Exquisite chocolate brown surfaces with the faintest mahogany overtones. Deeply prooflike with a few very faint hairlines seen in the fields, a trivial mark on Victoria’s cheek and toning spot in the left obverse field that helps to identify the specimen. It was noted in the Ford sale that this medal was included to represent the type, an example of which appeared in the W.W.C. Wilson sale, in silver, with a suspension loop.
Ex Estes G. Hawkes, November 1975; John J. Ford, Jr.; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XVIII, May 2007, lot 7.
