Mint Errors
1875-S Twenty-Cent Piece. BF-16, FS-302. Rarity-1. Misplaced Date, Repunched Mintmark--Broadstruck--AU-58+ (PCGS).
This fascinating example readily reveals the Mint error in the form of an unusually broad planchet that extends outside of the main design elements from 1 to 5 o'clock on both the obverse and reverse. All major features are sharply defined, nonetheless, the surfaces satiny in texture with mottled golden-russet and steely-copper patina that is boldest around the peripheries. Major Mint errors such as this are rare on all classic U.S. Mint coin types, but especially for brief series such as the twenty-cent piece, which was produced for only four years from 1875 through 1878. Eagerly awaiting inclusion in an advanced collection.
