Description

United States Assay Office of Gold $50

"1852" Sterling Silver California Slug Souvenir Spoon Made with the Replica Design of a United States Assay Office of Gold $50. Virtually as Made.

4.5 inches. 19.14 grams. Small-sized figural spoon with a prospector holding his pick in one hand and displaying a large gold nugget in the other standing atop a curved floral stem which is stamped STERLING on the back. Within the floral decoration on the stem are a pick a shovel. The 39 mm octagonal bowl bears an intricate replica design of a United States Assay Office of Gold $50 "slug." The representation is very close to Kagin-14, but with KUNER F added beneath the eagle. Generally silver-gray in appearance, although what appears to be faint remnants of light gilding to both sides of the bowl and discernible with patience. A piece that would make an interesting addition to a collection of Territorial gold or Western memorabilia.

Estimate: $ 500
