Engraved Coins, Love Tokens, and Coin Jewelry
Love Token Fashioned out of an 1878-Dated Trade Dollar.
The obverse of the host coin depicts a large square and compass with a G in the middle superimposed over the coin details. The reverse was smoothed off and has a large shield with intricate borders engraved with a candelabra in the center and crossed shepherd staffs below. In addition, the letter H is engraved on each side with IOBB under the candelabra. K of P and FLT in linked rings are also engraved on each side. The coin is holed at the top as part of the design for suspension. Evidently the owner belonged to multiple fraternal organizations with the Masons, Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows represented.
