Counterstamps
A.E. POMEROY / & / J.F. BAKER / DEXTER / MICHIGAN - ESTABLISHED / 1850 on a smoothed down large cent. Brunk P-571, Rulau-Unlisted.
With all of the great information included on this counterstamp it should be rather easy to discover the business that is referred to. However, at this point it eludes discovery. The things we do know are the names of the principals involved, the city location of the business, and the year the business was established. Dexter, MI, first settled in 1824, is a small town a few miles northwest of Ann Arbor and a little over 50 miles west of Detroit, but it should have some historical records that should shed light on the subject. Brunk gives no information about this stamp and this is the only and exact example reported.
