J McHARG on a 1773-LM-JM Peruvian 2 Reales. Brunk M-442, Rulau NY-Rm 8. Host coin Good.
Both Brunk and Rulau attribute this stamp to John B. McHarg who was a gun maker working in Rome, NY from 1859 to 1870. He was in a partnership known as McHARG, HILDRETH & CO from 1866 to 1868 and then ARMSTRONG & McHARG from 1868 to 1870. Only one large cent and one 2 reales from 1777 are reported, making this a new example.
