Presidents and Inaugurals
1920 Theodore Roosevelt Portrait Plaque. By James Earle Fraser. Cold-Painted Cast Iron. Nearly As Made.
254 mm x 325 mm. This plaque depicts a bespectacled mature portrait of Roosevelt facing right. A panel below the bust is inscribed AGGRESSIVE FIGHTING FOR / THE RIGHT IS THE NOBLEST / SPORT THE WORLD AFFORDS. The plaque is signed FRASER / 19(Copyright)20. at the upper right. Except for a vague incuse reversed image of the obverse and two integral lugs for the attachment of a suspension wire, the reverse is blank. The finish is an overall deep olive bronze with darker accents in the recessed areas. An impressive plaque, by an eminent sculptor, portraying one of the United States' most popular presidents. Fraser is well known to numismatists for his Buffalo nickel design introduced in 1913, as well as to the general public for his iconic "End Of The Trail" sculpture.
