Description

Draped Bust Cent

1797 Draped Bust Cent. S-137. Rarity-2. Reverse of 1797, Stems to Wreath. VF-20, Pitting.

Double struck with an ever so slight rotation between strikes. The affect of which caused some detail to appear slightly disfigured and thin, as well as pushing the planchet out to a larger diameter giving this piece a broadstruck appearance. This coin has a "beaded edge" as described by Breen, likely just the effect of a certain planchet cutter. Strong detail, the surfaces glossy but with trace microporosity, several little pits, and some nicks and scratches.

PCGS# 35942.

From the Bill Woytasek Collection.

Estimate: $ 500
