This is a very attractive coin for the assigned grade that is worthy of serious bidder consideration. Handsome deep orange-gold surfaces are warmly and evenly patinated, the strike sharp to full throughout the design. Evidence for the cleaning is minimal, and only for accuracy do we mention a touch of haziness and a few wispy hairlines that are easily overlooked. The mintage was only 4,400 pieces, there being little call for coins of this denomination among contemporary gold bullion depositors. With the vast majority falling prey to melting, it should come as no surprise that most numismatic scholars accept an estimate of just 80 to 100 coins extant in all grades.
