PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1833-34). Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Filed Rims, VF Details; C/M - XF Details.
KM-74; Basso-55; PNM#6-Not listed; PNM#16-125; PNM#21-93; Cacho-VIII-CS-053; Gil-5-4-!-B. Type V Countermark, crowned F.7.0 within circular indent. Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832 until 20 December 1834. Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1833-Zs OM Mexico Republic 8 Reales. Another sneaky date from this mint, we have only three documented examples in our records with two different crown varieties (5-4-1-C [1] and 5-4-!-B [2]). The countermark is unevenly applied with a nearly complete crown, though most of the ordinal is obscured, on a nice-looking wholesome host coin. Close inspection reveals evidence of fine edge filing around the rims accounting for the detail's designation, but is hardly a distraction. Despite its shortcoming this handsome and moderately worn host coin is pleasing to the eye sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
