GERMANY. Bavaria. 2 Ducats, 1697. Munich Mint. Maximillian II Emanuel. NGC AU-58.
Fr-221; KM-371. Obverse: Crowned arms of Bavaria and Poland; Reverse: Radiant palm tree with integrated familial names and touching hearts with initials at base. A VERY RARE and interesting type struck upon the birth of Prince Karl Albrecht. Karl Albrecht was born to Maximillian II Emanuel, the Elector of Bavaria, and Theresa Kunegunda Sobieska, the daughter of King John III Sobieski of Poland. As a result, this piece has strong appeal to collectors of German issues, Ducats and multiples thereof, and Polish types. A very attractive coin as well, it possesses warm orange-gold highlights with limited wear and wholesome surfaces. With only four appearances in archived auction results (the last of which was in 2012), a coin that is sure to attract frenzied interest for the right of ownership.
