Description

1882 Egypt medal with two clasps: THE NILE 1884-85, ABU KLEA. Undated reverse variety. Silver, 36 mm. MY-131 (clasps x), BBM-87. Edge mount with straight bar swivel suspension. Very Fine.

1166 . TPp.. J. COLEY. Rl. H. Gds. engraved on the edge. Light silver gray with some golden tone and the usual peppering of tiny marks (from display with the Khedive's Star). Only 46 members of the Royal Horse Guards were entitled to the clasp for Abu Klea. According to the service records that accompany this lot, the 6-foot tall, light brown haired Trooper John Coley seems to have been rather popular: he was sidelined once with gonorrhea (complete with a 22-day hospital stay) and twice with syphilis, once for 23 days and later for 31. Accompanied by a Khedive's Star. Offered with a modern ribbon.
