SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.32 gms), struck under Gelon I, ca. 480-475 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style.

HGC-2, 1306; Boehringer-65 (V32/R43); SNG ANS-16 (same dies). Obverse: Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving quadriga right; above, crowning Nike flying right; Reverse: Diademed head of Arethousa right; four dolphins around. Presenting tremendous overall detail in the hair of Arethousa, this charmingly bold specimen features an attractive tone and some shimmering hints of brilliance in the fields.
