SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 406-367 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.27 gms), Reverse die signed by Eukleidas, ca. 400/395-390 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style.

HGC-2, Unlisted; Tudeer-88; SNG ANS-295 (same dies). Obverse: Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving quadriga left; above, crowning Nike flying right; in exergue, dolphin left; Reverse: Head of Arethousa left, with hair in bands, wearing double-loop earring; four dolphins around; below, panel reading EVKΛEI. One of the more popular types from this era of tremendous signed examples, this specimen offers a well centered strike on a rather broad flan and features all details at which one can ceaselessly gaze. The artist's signature is clear, and the superior craftsmanship is undeniable. A tremendous example for an advanced cabinet of ancient Greek art.
