SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 406-367 B.C. AV 20 Litrai (Tetradrachm) (1.15 gms), ca. 405-400 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5.

HGC-2, 1289; cf. Berend-pl. XI. Obverse: Head of Herakles left, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square, Σ-Y-P-A in quarters; in deeper incuse circle in center, small female head (Arethousa?) left, wearing necklace. Sharply struck and very lightly handled, this impressive specimen offers golden-orange brilliance, a well centered strike, and a tremendous pedigree.
