KM-77.2; Jovel-Type III countermark. Type II Countermark; sun over mountains within circular boarder. Issued by decree of 2 May 1839 through 20 November 1840. Applied to the reverse of a 1750-53-G J Guatemala pillar cob 8 Reales of Ferdinand VI. The countermark is well applied, though slightly uneven, to a crudely struck host with even wear. The second and third digits of the date are faint, but visible with all other identifying characteristics off the flan making further attribution difficult. This well-worn survivor is wholesome and problem free exhibiting even wear displaying light attractive gray patina.
