NERO, A.D. 54-68. Fourree Denarius, Imitating Lugdunum Mint, A.D. 60-61 or somewhat thereafter. NGC FINE. Core Visible.
cf. RIC-28 (for prototype); cf. RSC-222 (same). Obverse: Bare head right; Reverse: Roma standing right, holding and inscribing shield supported on left knee, with foot on helmet; dagger and bow at feet to right. An ancient forgery, this spurious Denarius is a bit cruder in style than the genuine issues from the type, and the copper core is visible in multiple places. A chance to acquire a contemporary piece that circulated along side the desirable Denarius off which this example was closely patterned.
