SWEDEN. Ragnvald Knaphövde (the Foolish) Silver Medal, ND (1745-60). PCGS SPECIMEN-67.
Hildebrand II, p. 551, 15. Regents of Sweden series. By D. Fehrman. Diameter: 34mm. Obverse: crowned, helmeted, and armored bust right; Reverse: Legend and date in six lines. Tantalizingly toned, this Superb Gem features a high degree of golden-champagne notes sparkling throughout. Swiss-born Johann Carl Hedlinger (1691-1771) was trained in Paris and later became the court medalist in Stockholm, where he produced numerous historical medals on commission. His portraits are often viewed as some of the most elegant and well-known, and he contributed greatly to his series of "Regentlängd," or "regent lengths,"--a series that provided portraits and brief biographies of the Swedish monarchs from Björn på Håga through Fredrik I.
