ARMENIA. Tram, ND (1198-1219). Sis Mint. Levon I. PCGS MS-64.
cf. AC-282-3 (for type). Weight: 2.97 gms. Obverse: Levon seated facing on leonine throne, holding orb and lis; Reverse: Two lions standing back-to-back, heads facing one another, with patriarchal cross between them. Extremely well centered and struck, this entrancing near-Gem presents a level of craftsmanship and beauty that is SCARCELY encountered in hammered issues. Meanwhile, some shimmering brilliance in the fields and deep iridescent toning raise its eye appeal that much further. A great opportunity for a stunning representative in the medieval Armenian series.
