28 mm. Pierced for suspension. The back is inscribed "L.L. BUCKLAND / CO. C. / 11TH REG / N.H.V. / MANCHESTER. Lucian L. Buckland was born in Quebec, Canada to Walter and Jane Buckland in October 1841, and enlisted August 8, 1862, in Manchester, New Hampshire as a private. He was mustered into C Company of the 11th Infantry Regiment about two weeks later. The New Hampshire 11th saw a good deal of action in Virginia, Mississippi and Tennessee from late 1862, through the end of the war in April 1865, including engagements at Fredericksburg, Vicksburg, Knoxville, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg. The regiment was mustered out in June 1865, at Alexandria, Virginia. After the war, Lucian and his wife Elizabeth Shields Buckland settled in Vermont, and later Maryland, where he died in early 1887, at the age of 45.
