Fr. 749*. 1918 $2 Federal Reserve Bank Star Note. Boston. PMG About Uncirculated 50 EPQ.
This is one of just eleven replacements reported in Track and Price for this Elliott - Burke - Willett - Morss signature variety. This is one of only three examples in a PMG holder, with this example being Top Pop by a country mile- the second highest being in a Very Fine 25 grade. Unquestionably original paper is denoted by PMG's EPQ qualifier, with attractive embossing noticed on the reverse. The margins are enticing, which nicely frame the important design. The popularity for this denomination comes from the depiction of the New York class of battleship which is found on the reverse in intricate detail, which at the time this note was printed was considered state of the art in technology and shipbuilding. The New York class battleship consisted of BB-34 USS New York and BB-35 USS Texas, of which the Texas still survives today, and is a museum ship berthed at San Jacinto State Park in Texas as a lasting monument to the veterans of America's two world wars. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.
