Description

SCOTLAND. Ryal (Sword Dollar of 30 Shillings), 1570. Edinburgh Mint. James VI. PCGS Genuine--Filed Rims, AU Details.
S-5472; Burns-5 (fig. 921). First coinage. Obverse: Crowned coat-of-arms; Reverse: Upright sword surmounted by crown; across upper field, hand pointing to XXX (mark of value). Some minor deposits around the devices and the noted rim filing account for the details designation. Otherwise, this pleasingly toned example is without much in the way of handling.
