"1792" (ca. 1860) Idler Copy of the Getz "Half Dollar." Musante GW-27, Baker-25K, W-15910. Silver. Extremely Fine.
33.9 mm. 244.2 grains. Lightly mottled silver surfaces with soft hairlines but pleasing eye appeal overall. An interesting example of this 19th-century copy, with COPY carefully removed from the lower reverse and a circle and squares edge device added! This is the first we recall seeing with the added edge device. A popular early coin dealer issue, struck to capitalize on the vibrant market for Washington medals in the years leading up to the Civil War, and especially desirable in silver.
Collector envelope with attribution notation included.
