1869 Liberty Head Eagle. AU-50 (PCGS).
Offered is an important condition rarity from one of the lowest mintage circulation strike eagles of the 1860s. Uncommonly high grade for an 1869 ten, both sides reveal ample semi-prooflike finish in the fields. The devices are boldly to sharply rendered throughout with original rose-honey color enhancing strong eye appeal. The Philadelphia Mint struck just 1,830 circulation strike eagles in 1869 and survivors number fewer than 100 (if not 75) coins in all grades. Even lower grade examples through VF are seldom encountered in today's market. EF and AU coins are rarer still, while Mint State pieces are so elusive that only a handful of collectors can own an example at that level at any given point in time. This thoroughly PQ About Uncirculated offering from the Fairmont Collection would serve with distinction in the finest cabinet.
