(1771) Contemporary Counterfeit English Halfpenny. George III Type. Spike Chin Family--Obverse Brockage--Very Fine, Corroded.
80.56 grains. This distinctive obverse die is so named for the small, curved die break adjacent to George's chin, and an outsize number of brockages from this die seem to have survived to this day. Or perhaps they are just easier to identify because of the spike! Corrosion noted on both sides of this dark brown specimen.
