SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (16.92 gms), struck under Hieron I, ca. 475-470 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Edge Marks.
HGC-2, 1307; Boehringer-Series XIIa, 299. Obverse: Charioteer driving quadriga right; above, crowning Nike flying right; Reverse: Diademed head of Arethousa right; four dolphins around. A well-centered and deeply toned example. Both sides offer sharp attractive detail, with the obverse being particularly bold.
