1881 Liberty Seated Quarter. Proof-66 (PCGS). CAC.
The obverse exhibits handsome bronze, powder blue and pale lilac overtones to a base of pewter gray, while the reverse is more evenly patinated in smoky pearl-gray and steel-blue. This is obviously a fully original coin, as befits the Millholland Collection provenance, and it is also an expertly preserved one that would accept nothing less than a premium Gem grade. A lovely Proof that comes down to us from a mintage of just 12,975 Liberty Seated quarters bearing the 1881 date, 12,000 of which are circulation strikes.
