1909 New Theatre of New York Medal. By Bela Lyon Pratt. Miller-25. Bronze. Trimmed Edge. Choice Mint State.
104 mm. Exceptional quality and eye appeal for the type, both sides exhibit lovely golden-brown patina to a subtle, fine-grain sandblast finish. Only 50 examples of this large bronze medal were struck by the infant Medallic Art Company, and sales were slow despite the artistic designs by the famed sculptor and coin designer Bela Lyon Pratt. This theater closed only two years later, before the medals were even offered for public sale. The offered example is far more attractive than the majority of pieces, most of which have untrimmed edges. Worthy of the strongest bids.
