Description

1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 23-Q, W-1560. Rarity-3. Period After GEORGIVS, 7 Harp Strings. MS-64 RB (PCGS).
110.1 grains. Lively mint orange and golden-tan iridescence vie for dominance on the satiny surfaces of this attractive Virginia halfpenny. A pleasing piece that exceeds Ford:113 for surface quality and eye appeal in our opinion, and a coin that would be at home in any "colonial" type collection or specialized collection of Virginia halfpennies.
PCGS# 913337.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier from our sale of the Ted L. Craige Collection, March 2013 Baltimore Auction, lot 187.

Estimate: $1650
