1881 Trade Dollar. Proof-63 (PCGS).
Rich steely-charcoal and pewter-gray patina gives way to iridescent blue and golden-apricot undertones as the surfaces dip into a light. Nicely struck and pleasing to the eye, this trade dollar has been certified in Proof-63 grade, which simply means that it will cost you a lot less than if it had been certified significantly higher. And yet, the piece is highly attractive. If you have been seeking an example of this date, consider the present lot very carefully.
