1925 United States Assay Commission Medal. By George T. Morgan. JK AC-69. Rarity-5. Bronze. AU-55 (NGC).
51 mm. Mottled olive-gray to a base of warm golden-tan and rose color. Collectors of United States coins will recognize the eagle on the reverse of the 1925 Assay Commission medal, as it bears a strong resemblance to the one used on the famous Morgan silver dollar of 1878 to 1921. The Mint received an order for 30 bronze medals for the 1925 Commission meeting, which was later raised to 50 medals, all of which were delivered on February 14 of that year. We have only offered two other examples of this issue in recent years.
