1877 Nickel Three-Cent Piece. Proof-64 Cameo (PCGS). CAC.
This is a charming specimen with satin to modestly reflective surfaces beneath a dusting of original sandy-silver iridescence. Popular as one of three Proof-only issues in the nickel three-cent series, the 1877 was probably produced to the extent of 1,250 to 1,500 pieces despite the fact that many numismatic references provide a mintage of 900 coins. Regardless of the exact number of coins struck, and given the lack of an associated circulation strike delivery, the 1877 is the rarest date of the type with survivors always in demand among advanced collectors.
