Description

1800 Draped Bust Half Dime. LM-1. Rarity-3. EF-45 (PCGS). CAC.
This richly and originally toned example has much to offer the discerning type collector of classic U.S. Mint coinage. A lovely Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle half dime, both sides are bathed in a bold blend of steel-blue and rose-gray patina. All major design elements are boldly to sharply rendered. The surfaces are smooth in hand, and they retain ample mint luster to further tempt the viewer aided by direct lighting. After a hiatus of two years (1798 and 1799) when no half dimes were struck, the Mint resumed production of this denomination in 1800. Comprised of just five dates, the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle half dime is one of the shortest series in all of U.S. numismatics. Not surprisingly, it is also one of the most challenging types to collect at all levels of preservation, especially with the superior quality and eye appeal offered in this Choice EF survivor.
PCGS# 4264. NGC ID: 2326.
From the BASH Collection.
