Greenport, New York. 1902 Plain Back. $10 Fr. 624. The Peoples NB. Charter #3232. PCGS Banknote Choice Very Fine 35.
A check of both the NBN Census and the T&P site show that neither has accounted for any large size notes from the People's National Bank of Greenport, New York. This important discovery note is therefore the first large size note to be found from this Suffolk County bank, and with only one small size note known (that being a 1929 Type 1 $20 in Good 6) this easily ranks as one of the rarest banks in the entire field of National Banknotes. We are therefore fortunate in that this newly-discovered 1902 Plain Back $10 is in an extremely pleasing Choice VF condition, free from any problems. The blue seal and charter numbers stand out well from the off-white paper, the ink signatures are fully sharp and legible, and four full and complete margins complete the picture. We need not remind collectors of the importance of this piece. Being only the second note found from this bank, and the first large size, its significance is obvious and we expect considerable interest and activity on this new-found treasure.
