Description

1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 6-D, W-5050. Rarity-2. Double Coulter, M-Shaped Ears. AU-50 (PCGS).
152.6 grains. Nice dark olive brown with even and attractive surfaces. Pretty nicely centered, just a little soft at the obverse border below the date and lacking denticles atop the reverse. Nice color and surface, an impressively problem free example from this prolific die pair. A small rim bruise is noted above the second U of PLURIBUS but is of little consequence. Die State 2, with the usual break at the lower tip of the shield, but a little more advanced than sometimes seen. The SHI Census of seven coins includes two UNCs and five more AU coins. The November 2019 EPU coin was graded AU-55+ (PCGS).
PCGS# 767864.
From the E Pluribus Unum Collection.

Estimate: $2500
