ROMULUS AUGUSTUS, A.D. 475-476. AV Tremissis (1.46 gms), Mediolanum Mint. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Light Marks.
RIC-3411; Depeyrot-87/1. Obverse: Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right; Reverse: Latin cross within wreath; CONOB. An EXTREMELY RARE minor in gold from the boy who has traditionally been viewed as the final emperor of the Western Roman Empire ( and thus, within coinage, the Roman Empire ). Given that this is a KEY to any imperial series, the importance of it cannot be overstated. A stunning survivor offering majestic charm and brilliance, with a solid strike and excellent overall detail remaining. Undoubtedly one of the finest of the type that one can possibly hope to encounter, and one that should, rather accordingly, generate great fanfare when it crosses the auction block.
