1886 Liberty Head Nickel. MS-65+ (PCGS).
Sharply struck throughout, this is a superior-quality Liberty Nickel in all regards. Full, satiny luster bathes surfaces that are also possessed of pale pastel straw-golden iridescence. A spindly die crack (as struck) encircles much of the obverse periphery, and is also seen at the base of the reverse. This is important for pedigree purposes. Minimally marked and overall smooth, a few trivial carbon flecks are so faint as to be hardly worth mentioning. One of the rarest Liberty Nickels in all Mint State grades, the 1886 is a low-mintage, heavily circulated issue with only 3.3 million pieces struck.
