CANADA. Duo of Silver Uniface 10 Dollars Bonded Planchet Patterns (2 Pieces), "1976" (1975). Ottawa Mint. Both PCGS SPECIMEN-62.
Montreal Olympics. 1) Series IV, Men's Hurdles, slightly modified design. cf. KM-102. Diameter: 46.1mm; Weight: 47.2 gms. Fineness: 0.980. 2) Series IV, Women's Shot Put, slightly modified design. cf. KM-103. Diameter: 46.2mm; Weight: 46.5 gms. Fineness: 0.870. The design for this issue was done by Leo Yerxa. Each with a double thick bonded planchet, thicker font, less defined details and a bit flatter than the issued version and minor design shifts. A slight deviation in design for the Men's Hurdles issue is additional hair on the forehead. Both exhibit a brushed satiny finish with rich patina amongst the devices adding a bit of contrast. This nicely matched set offers an interesting perspective on the evolution of pattern design and production that is sure to be a nice addition to the next collection it enters.
